Volunteer Services – CHI Good Samaritan Health

Below you will find a brief description of our some of our Service Areas 

  • Hospitality Desk (Main Lobby):  Volunteers welcome patients, their families, general public, give information concerning patients’ room numbers and directions to areas of the hospital and call transport or a translator if needed. These volunteers are possibly the first encounter our guests have with the hospital, and have the opportunity to let our guests know GSH truly cares about them.  The Main Hospitality Desk is manned seven days a week: Monday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and Sunday: 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
     
  • Hospitality Desk / (West Tower):  Volunteers welcome patients, their families, general public, give information concerning patients’ room numbers and directions to areas of the hospital and call transport or a translator if needed. The volunteer coordinates patient flow for admission and gives directions to the surgery waiting area. These volunteers are possibly the first encounter our guests have with the hospital, and have the opportunity to let our guests know GSH truly cares about them. The West Tower Desk is manned seven days a week: Monday – Friday: 5:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and Sunday: 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
     
  • Surgery Waiting Room: Volunteers in this area are a liaison between our Recovery Room, families, surgical patients, physicians and Surgical Staff.  Volunteers provide support to our families and visitors, conversation, and general hospital information.  The Surgery Waiting Room is manned five days a week: Monday – Wednesday: 5:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., and Thursday – Friday: 5:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
     
  • Sure Cure Gift Shop: This Gift Shop is staffed by volunteers for all hours of operation.  The volunteers in this area act as retail agents supporting the presentation and sale of goods, answer phones, and provide comfort to our guests. The proceeds are used to support requested projects and programs supported by our GSH Volunteer Service League.  Hours of operation for the Sure Cure are: Monday – Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and Sunday: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
     
  • Emporium Gift Shop: This Gift Shop is staffed by volunteers for all hours of operation.  The volunteers in this area act as retail agents supporting the presentation and sale of goods, answer phones, and provide comfort to our guests. The proceeds are used to support requested projects and programs supported by our GSH Volunteer Service League. Hours of operation for the Emporium are: Monday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
     
  • Patient Room Service: Volunteers provide a variety of personal comfort services, in addition to offering support and entertainment services for patients and their families. Patient Room Service is manned seven days each week: Monday – Friday 9:00 – 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. 

These services include VCR/DVD and cassette recorder service, newspaper delivery, new baby immunization information, Cell Phone Charger “Rental”, Pediatric patient “Kid Kart”, letter writing and reading, delivering gift and flower purchases from our Sure Cure Gift Shop, picking up and delivering empty ‘chart-backs’ for our Nursing Departments, delivering hand-made blankets and afghans to our patients, delivering our ‘Bouquet-a-Day’ Monday - Friday to a patient from our Volunteer Service League, deliver books, magazines, crossword puzzles, games, playing cards, and many other requests as received by our patients and families.
