Scholarship Programs

LeRoy E. Rheault Endowed Scholarship: LeRoy E. Rheault was President of Good Samaritan Hospital from 1981-1988. In appreciation of LeRoy Rheault, his colleagues, associates and friends established an endowed scholarship bearing his name.

Don and Delores Williams Endowed Scholarship: The late Don Williams was a long-time employee of Good Samaritan Hospital. In 1992, he and his wife, Delores, created this endowed scholarship.

H.R. and Suz Walker Endowed Scholarship: The late H.R. Walker, was a family practice physician for 32 years and Medical Director at Good Samaritan Hospital for five years. He and his wife, Suz, created this endowed scholarship in 1997.

Bernard Haag Endowed Nursing Scholarship: In 2005, Nelda Haag established this endowed scholarship in memory of her late husband, Bernard. Scholarships will be awarded to nursing students with special consideration given to those fluent in Spanish.

Shirley Chavanu Nursing Scholarship: Shirley Chavanu has been a nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital since 1977. Shirley, her family and friends have made possible this scholarship for an individual pursuing a career in nursing.

Good Samaritan Hospital Healthcare Career Scholarships: Good Samaritan Hospital believes strongly in making the story of the Good Samaritan a living reality. Students may also apply for additional scholarships in two categories: Future Healthcare Providers Scholarships and Physicians Scholarships.

Physician Scholarship: The Kearney Medical Staff has partnered with Good Samaritan Hospital to offer a healthcare provider’s scholarship.

Jim Elder Memorial Radiology Scholarship: Family and friends of Jim Elder, former Good Samaritan Hospital radiology employee, have established this scholarship to benefit individuals pursuing a career in radiology. A scholarship will be awarded to a senior radiology student attending Mary Lanning and completing their rotation at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Harms' Family Endowed Scholarship: George Harms, former vice president of finance at Good Samaritan Hospital, and his wife, Jana, established the Harms' Family Endowed Scholarship in 2008. This scholarship will benefit those students pursuing a healthcare career.

Good Samaritan Hospital Professional Development Council:  In 2012, PDC established a nursing scholarship for current LPN's or RN's to obtain their BSN.

Who is eligible?

All scholarship applicants must be accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited program of a recognized health career. Applicants must be permanent residents or students attending schools in a Good Samaritan Health Systems’ primary or secondary service county area. Please see included map below.

 These counties are listed as the primary or secondary service county area.  They are Buffalo, Custer, Dawson, Franklin, Frontier, Furnas, Gosper, Harlan, Kearney, Lincoln, Phelps, Red Willow, Sherman, and Valley counties.

It is the intent of the scholarship donors to award these scholarships to highly qualified persons who have a desire to use their talents in the Kearney area after completing their educational goals.

How do I apply?

One application will qualify you for consideration of all appropriate scholarships. The application package must contain the following:

Application Form: Complete an application form. The form is provided here in pdf and Word format. Use the format that you prefer.

 

Letters of Recommendation : Submit two letters of recommendation with your application package. One letter from a previous instructor or an advisor within your field of study; and one from an employer, practicum supervisor, or other professional contact.  These individuals should be knowledgeable of your character and ability.

 

Transcript: Submit all official transcripts from the Office of the Registrar for credit earned at your present school and other colleges or universities you have attended.

 

Educational Enrollment Verification: Submit a copy of your acceptance letter or enrollment certificate into an accredited program from a recognized healthcare school.

 

Future Goals: Submit a brief essay on a separate page identifying your career plans, dedication to career, and contributions you plan to make to your career.

 

All elements of the application must be postmarked or delivered in person by June 2, 2014.
