Good Samaritan Hospital has its own local Institutional Review Board (IRB), which is designed to protect patients who take part in research studies. The IRB reviews and approves the protocols for all clinical trials funded by the Federal Government. It is the responsibility of the IRB to ensure that the study is well designed, does not involve undue risks and includes safeguards for patients. Some studies are also reviewed by the Centralized IRB, which reviews the scientific content of the study. Both boards are in place to protect patients' rights.
