Good Samaritan Hospital offers a variety of classes to provide continuing education for professionals.

ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course

The Cancer Center offers the two-day Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy and Biotherapy program. This course provides nurses with a comprehensive overview of chemotherapy and biotherapy and includes information on newly approved drugs (available at the time of publication) to keep nurses apprised of the latest developments in drug therapy. Sara Malzacher, RN, BSN, OCN is the supervisor with the infusion area in the Cancer Center and is the trainer for the program. She is experienced in the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy.

Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Class

This program is held at least once annually. It is designed for the nurse with limited or no chemotherapy and biotherapy experience. It focuses on the common drug therapies used in cancer treatment, a detailed review of administration guidelines, safety and handling, and standardized practices at Good Samaritan Hospital. Participants are also provided with information on the resources available to assist the less experienced nurse in administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy. Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Update

This program is generally four hours in length and provides a review of new cancer treatment drugs approved over the previous year. Additional topics include changes in safety and handling, drug administration and management of side effects related to chemotherapy and biotherapy.
