Breast Care/Breast Health Navigator

The Cancer Center provides the services of a Breast Health Specialist. Marcia Stephens is a registered nurse who holds a certification in breast health. She provides educational information and support to women concerned about their breast health. She works with the multi-disciplinary team to provide for the educational, emotional and social needs of a patient and her family in coping with the breast cancer diagnosis.

The Cancer Center supports breast cancer awareness activities, which includes the annual Simply Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Style Show and during the month of October, a breast cancer awareness booth at the Hilltop Mall. The Cancer Center collaborates with others in the community for awareness events, such as the Think Pink sports events at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

We work closely with the American Cancer Society to provide Reach to Recovery visits. In this peer support program, trained breast cancer survivors meet face-to-face or by telephone with newly diagnosed patients to provide support and information.

Our Breast Cancer Support Group offers educational and psychological support to people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The group is designed to offer educational programs related to breast cancer and to provide a place to assist in meeting the emotional needs of the patient. The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Cancer Center Conference Room. For more information please call Marcia Stephens RN-BC, OCN, MSEd, PLMHP at (308) 865-7883 or 1-800-277-4306.
